Oars, 2007

watercolor, 9½" x 7½"

My daughters participation in crew, as a coxswain, provided a lot a great paintable moments only a few of which I actually managed to capture. This sketch was done after a race one Sunday afternoon in the Spring.

The gear associated with competitive rowing is fascinating, and fantastically expensive. These oars are made up of a dozen or more pieces made from hi-tech materials, each costing about $300.
